Another five people died on Friday - three were electrocuted in separate incidents in Pangasinan province north of Manila and two other people drowned, according to officials. Weather forecasters said Typhoon Halong, about 1,190 kilometres (739 miles) east of northern Cagayan province, was drawing in more clouds over the South China Sea and pouring rain over most of the main Philippines island of Luzon and the central Visayas region. The typhoon, with winds gusting up to 195 kph (122 mph), was moving at 22 kph (14 mph) northwest toward southern Japan. The civil defence office said about 1.4 million (m) people in 16 provinces and 26 cities, including metropolitan Manila, have been affected by the flooding, but only about 10,000 of more than 24,000 people who have been evacuated remain in temporary shelters. Flood alerts have been issued along major rivers in central and northern Luzon. Flooding in communities along Manila Bay was expected to be exacerbated by a high tide starting at midday Saturday. Officials reported water up to two metres (six feet) deep in some communities in metropolitan Manila. Chris Sale struck out 10-plus for a record-tying eighth straight appearance and Jackie Bradley Jr. robbed Ryon Healy's would-be walk-off homer with a catch over the center-field wall in the ninth, but that wasn't enough to keep the A's from beating the Red Sox, as Mark Canha led off the 10th inning with a homer to finish a single shy of hitting for the cycle.
