My name is LaShonna and today I will teach you how to dance like Shakira. Shakira is an amazing performer who uses a lot of belly dancing in her movement. So today I'm going to teach you a routine that's inspired by Shakira as well as belly dancing. Okay? We're going to start with our right leg a little bit ahead of us so that we're evenly distributed amongst our feet. Left arm in the air, right arm behind you. In this position we lift our hips up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, four times. Then we do the same thing but a little bit faster. So we go up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, then faster, faster, faster, faster. From here we're going to take our arm out to the side and our left arm out. Our arms are out and the only thing that moves here is our waist and hips isolating four times. Push right, one. Push left, two. Push right, three. Push left, four. Let's put that together so far. One arm up, the other arm down. Here we go. One, two, three, four. Faster, faster, faster, faster. Arm, arm, isolate the hips four times. We're going to back to facing side with a little booty shimmy. Four. Four counts of that. Once again, that's shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy. Then we do chest and hands. Chest, chest, hands, hands, hands. So that's chest, chest, hands, hands, hands. Again, chest, chest, hands, hands, hands. Let's put the whole thing together so we can dance like Shakira. One arm up, the other arm down. Slow, one, two, three, four. Faster shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy. Arm, arm, isolate the hips side to side. Booty scoot. Chest, chest, hands. Let's do it one more time a little faster. Six, seven, eight. Faster. Arm, arm. Booty scoot. Chest, chest. Awesome job. And now you know how to dance like Shakira.

In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do hip lifts and a basic shimmy. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So, now, we are going to go over the basic hip lift. Let's assume our basic belly dance posture position. So, the legs are right under the hip bones. Knees are bent. Lower abs are tucked, chest lifted, arms out. And now you are going to bend the knees even more than before and focus on lifting one hip at a time by straightening one knee at a time. So, as you straighten the right knee, the right hip will come up and it is going to shoot straight up into your body. So you want to think about meeting your hip bone up to the ribcage coming back down to center. Switching over to the other side, straightening that knee, coming back down. Make sure you're keeping your heels on the floor and you are not lifting up with any point. And again, lifting the hip up and back down to neutral position, the other side back down to position. Now, skip that hold in the middle and you're going to go up, and up and up, and up. And, the closer your are to the ground, the easier it will be to find that isolation. Let's try that with music. And a little bit faster, keeping your heels on the floor, chest floating out, arms relaxed. Make sure you are not moving in space and your head is not bopping up and down. And faster. And full speed. And that is the basic hip isolation.

I teach the hip hop culture, and right now I'm ready to teach y'all some dances for the club. Let's get it started. I know many of you are loving the miss, the wonderful, Shakira. So right now, I'm going to show you how to dance like Shakira. The most famous action that she has is going on with all of this area right In here. It's her hip action. So, what you need to do is stand to the side. Good. So we're going to use this right hip. I've only got one right hip, so I'm going to use this one. So I'm going to bend my knees. Good. We're going to have feet planted together. Good. Have your arms in front of you. Good. Then, you want to take your hips, and you want to swing it to the right. Boom. So the accent is always to one side. Not left-right, so it's not left-right, left-right. Don't do that one. What you want to do is just keep it to one area. Bend your knees, arms in front of you. Get good fists in front of you, and you want to lift your hips to the right. Boom. They want to lift up, not just outward, but up. Boom. And to up. And to up. And to up. So, we're going to try that again. Knees bent, arms in front, and hip to the right. Hip, hip, so my hips don't lie. So, now, I'm going to show you how to travel in a circle. So your knees are bent. You have your arms together. Fists are together, in front of you, and your hips are going to come to the right. As they come to the right, you're going to hit up. Boom. Good. And then, you're going to bring your hips down. As they come up again, you're going to take a step. Step. Bring the knee up, and press down. Boom. And then you twist the hips. Try it again. So, you have knees bent, bring up that foot, and press down. So it's just a little stomp so you can travel around. So, you have stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp. My hips don't lie, but DJ, I'm going to need you to drop the beat, so we can all do it. So, not exactly the tempo or the type of music that you would use at home. I know Shakira uses a lot of Latin music, but this is what we're going to deal with for today. So, 5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4. So try it again. 6 and 7, 8, and 1, 2, 3, 4. Good. Now let's try it a little bit faster. 5, 6, 7 and 8. 1, 2, 3, 4. Good. Let's try it one more time. 5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4. Now, ladies, you can go out, and show them how your hips don't lie.
