With Iowa Pacific's recent acquisition of the Grenada Railway and the former Canadian National Grenada Subdivision, they decided to run the Polar Express from Batesville, Mississippi to Pope from November 29 to December 27, skipping Christmas Eve and Christmas. I had the opportunity to chase the train while on the run. Proved difficult because there aren't many open spots in the hilly territory, but I managed to bring it together. Pretty strange to see the MTA cars in the consist, but I guess they are used as fillers to give the train length. Really hope they decide to bring this back next year, as most of the evening rides were sellouts up to the end. Also enjoyed seeing the classic equipment, EMD E8s 515 and 518, and the Pullman cars, some dating from the 1920s. I hope you enjoyed this episode, as I enjoyed shooting and producing it. Iowa Pacific engines #515 & #518 idle as they bookend the passenger consist in Batesville. This excursion "The Train To Christmas Town" runs through December 27. I was mildly surprised to see these engines as I went over the railroad bridge on my way home yesterday, before remembering that the IP does excursions with these engines each year. The IP owns the Grenada Railway. I apologize for the camera noises. It is old and needs to be replaced by a real video camera.
