Hey You by Pink Floyd, the fourteenth track of The Wall. The Wall is a rock opera, telling the story of Pink, a man who builds a metaphorical wall around him, isolating him from the rest of the world. Already Pink is regretting his Wall, trying to call out to people on the other side. Lyrics to Hey You by Pink Floyd from The Wall (1979). The song is about the protagonist ("Pink") realizing the consequences of alienating himself from others. Pink cries for help as he cannot hear or see beyond the wall he has built around himself so that no one can hurt him. Eventually, he is aware that he has gone too far, and the "worms" have already eaten away at his brain; he finally succumbs to his insanity. Although the song is open to interpretation, this is the general analysis of the song. Art by Gerald Scarfe Writer(s): Roger Waters I do not own the song or image. All credit goes to the artists. LYRICS Hey you ! out there in the cold Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me Hey you ! Standing in the aisles With itchy feet and fading smiles, can you feel me Hey you ! don't help them to bury the light Don't give in without a fight. Hey you ! out there on your own sitting naked by the phone would you touch me Hey you ! with your ear against the wall Waiting for someone to call out would you touch me Hey you ! would you help me to carry the stone Open your heart, I'm coming home But it was only a fantasy The wall was too high as you can see No matter how he tried he could not break free And the worms ate into his brain. Hey you ! out there on the road Always doing what you're told, can you help me Hey you ! out there beyond the wall Breaking bottles in the hall, can you help me Hey you ! don't tell me there's no hope at all Together we stand, divided we fall. The Wall tells the story of Pink, an alienated young rock star who is retreating from society and isolating himself. In "Hey You", Pink realizes the mistake he made in shunning society, and attempts to regain contact with the outside world. However, he cannot see or hear beyond the wall. Pink's call becomes more and more desperate as he begins to realize there is no escape.
