OCR World Championships 2017 in Ontario, Canada. On October 13-15th I competed in the World Championships of Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) and represented Australia. Over the 3 day period, I participated in 4 races; a 3km, a 15km, a Team Race and a Make-A-Wish Charity run! The following video shows you clips from the 3km and 15km races which were extreme tests of physical and mental strength. The 15km race contained a series of hill climbs, which in the Blue Mountains in Ontario were ski slopes, and not only that but 43 extremely difficult obstacles. Words cannot explain the physical and mental barriers I had to overcome during these races, which I think is pretty accurately documented towards the end of this video. A part of me will always be in the Blue Mountains in Ontario. If you're reading this; I truly hope I have inspired, or at least motivated you, to step outside of your comfort zone and try something that scares the crap out of you. In this video I share some advice and experience about running and obstacle course race (OCR) on your own - a solo race! Now although OCR events are really considered to be a team event, you can take part as a solo runner/competitor on the day without any problems. In the case of Tough Mudder, they refer to solo runners as "Solo Mudders", and they say that "there is always a Mudder by your side". This is completely true; whoever is nearest to you at the time is your team mate. Aside from the obstacles I also provided some other tips, advice and insight after completing a Tough Mudder North West course on my own in 2016. ************************************************* Don’t forget to subscribe to be notified of future videos! http://tinyurl.com/jugonxj Keep in touch on social media! Check out Jahzzar over on FMA http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jahzzar/ The running season is over. No more OCRs for 2017 and to finish up I’m going to complete the Alpha Wolf. I missed this award in 2015 after the Autumn run sold out and last year... well, I sort of didn’t bother running at all. This year I was determined to get the title of “Alpha Wolf” so made sure I was booked on to each season as soon as the dates were released. (And I actually mean within the 1st minute of release). The Winter Wolf can be the toughest course. With the temperatures dropping and the weather unpredictable, it can be COLD and wet. On the Saturday, there was rain but on the Sunday we had sunshine, wind and the temperatures dropped. The water was cold and the mud was thick. I didn’t have a competitive run this time. Accompanying me was one of my friends so we had a nice steady pace around the course. I STILL think the organisers need to get rid of the tower of logs or whatever it is called. Everyone just bunches up and clings to the sides... it’s pretty sketchy! We ran the course in just under 2 hours, doing everything bar the swims (I am not a swimmer at all!). Best part? The mudsucker obviously. It seemed like most avoided the middle this time around but if you want to miss the queues then that’s where you have to go ;) Back in 2018? I hope so!
This video clip highlights some of the fun we had in Killington Vermont during one of our OCR Running Clinics. Looks like a lot of fooling around but there was a lot of knowledge being delivered over the weekend to include clinical metabolic assessments, gait evaluation and correction exercises and drills.
