Financial institutions are racing to beat a deadline set by the government to raise their minimum capital requirements. Under the directive issued 3years ago all operators ranging from commercial banks, mortgage finance institutions, stockbrokers and investment banks were required to raise their minimum share capital by between 50million shillings to 1billion shillings within 2 to 3 years effective 1st July 2008.CFC Stanbic financial services is the latest institution to comply with the new requirement after it increased its capital levels to 250million shillings.
