"That's right, you could get paid a total of around $18,000 for lying in bed, playing games on your phone, reading books, skyping with your friends and family, taking online classes -- and even go on with your day job if you can get away with working remotely, so long as you don't get out of bed for that entire duration." The Young Turks hosts John Iadarola and Ana Kasparian discuss the study, and just how much money it would take for them to participate. NASA Technology Finds Uses in Medical Imaging

NASA software has been incorporated into a new medical imaging device that could one day aid in the interpretation of mammograms, ultrasounds, and other medical imagery. The new MED-SEG system, developed by Bartron Medical Imaging LLC, a Connecticut-based company with satellite offices in Maryland, relies on an innovative software program developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. This software was originally designed to analyze imagery of Earth, but soon could be doing much more.

60 Days In Bed For Science And Deep Space Travel Research

60 Days In Bed For Science And Deep Space Travel Research

Could your body endure deep space? These test subjects are about to find out. For the next 60 days, a group of people will be on intense bed rest, with their beds tilted back six degrees at all times to make blood and fluids move to the head. The test, which is being conducted by the European Space Agency, simulates the changes astronauts encounter in space. It's not as easy as it sounds, as space agencies have been conducting bed rest studies for years. This time, the European Space Agency is testing a new nutrition formula — a vitamin and antioxidant "super-cocktail" — to see if it combats muscle deterioration and bone weakening. The group will undergo rehab afterwards in the same fashion astronauts do, in order to help them readjust to normal, "upright" life again. 5 Most Evil Nazi Human Experiments

5 Most Evil Nazi Human Experiments

Nazi human experimentation or nazi medical experiments was a series of medical experiments on large numbers of prisoners (including children), largely Jews from across Europe, but also Romani, Sinti, ethnic Poles, Soviet POWs and disabled Germans, by Nazi Germany in its concentration camps mainly in the early 1940s, during World War II and the Holocaust. During World War II, a number of German physicians conducted painful and often deadly experiments on thousands of concentration camp prisoners without their consent. Prisoners were forced into participating; they did not willingly volunteer and no consent was given for the procedures. Typically, the experiments resulted in death, trauma, disfigurement or permanent disability, and as such are considered as examples of medical torture. After the war, these crimes were tried at what became known as the Doctors' Trial, and revulsion at the abuses perpetrated led to the development of the Nuremberg Code of medical ethics. NASA is Paying This Guy $18,000 to Lie in Bed for Three Months

NASA is Paying This Guy $18,000 to Lie in Bed for Three Months

When Andrew Iwanicki lost his job in August, he probably expected to be spending a lot of time in bed. Little did he know that he’d actually be paid to do it. The very next day, he received an offer to join a NASA study that required him to lie in bed for three months straight, in exchange for a whopping $18,000! “My bed is in the NASA Flight Analog Research Unit in Houston, Texas, where I’m being paid $18,000 to lie down for 70 days while NASA researchers study me,” he wrote. “I have been in this bed for three weeks now, and I will be here for seven weeks more.” Andrew explained that the study – CFT 70 (Countermeasure and Functional Testing in Head-Down Tilt Bed Rest Study) – is part of a three-year effort to learn about bone and muscle atrophy in space. The team of NASA researchers have studied 54 people so far, and Andrew is the last participant. “I had applied to the study a year earlier on a whim, assuming I’d never be chosen from the pool of 25,000 applicants and I’d never be able to halt my hectic life for 15 weeks,” he explained. But as fate would have it, he suddenly found himself with an empty schedule and an offer in hand.
