The Gregorian Chant Group at Stony Brook sings the "Kyrie Eleison" (Orbis factor), from the "Liber Usualis."* This group is composed of music history graduate students at Stony Brook University.** From right to left: Michael Richardson, Jack Blaszkiewicz, JJ Hudson, David Blake. The "Liber Usualis" is the common book of chants for the entire liturgical year. Monks from the Abbey of Solesmes in France compiled this book in the 19th century. This "Kyrie" may be sung at mass on any Sunday throughout the year. The group has added the drone for aesthetic purposes, but an indication to drone does not appear within the "Liber Usualis." Text: Kyrie Eleison, Christ Eleison, Kyrie Eleison. ----- Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. *This performance took place on May 6, 2012 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Cutchogue, NY. Thanks to the pastor for allowing us to use the space, and thanks to David Morris for filming us. **Thanks to our professor Sarah Fuller, medieval musicologist at Stony Brook University, for her continued guidance and support of the group.
