Crazy Rich Asians has been a big hit this summer, and with most of it set here in Singapore, it’s hugely raised the Islands profile. Here are ten Singapore landmarks that play a starring role in the film CHANGI Changi airport is the first sg landmark Nick and Rachel encounter after arriving from New York. It’s won airport of the year for six years running for its world class facilities. NEWTON FOOD CENTRE Like any self-respecting Singaporean, the first thing that Nick does is take Rachel and some friends for some of the local food at Newton Food Centre. Hawker centres in Singapore are unique, and many stalls often offer one specialist dish that may have been perfected over generations, and some even winning Michelin stars. SINGAPORE FLYER The flyer features in many of the opening shots of Singapore, as it’s become part of Singapore’s iconic city skyline. It opened in 2008 and until 2014 was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world MERLION Just across the bay from the flyer is the odd looking Merlion, which features in a key scene in the film, and is another tourist must see. This strange creation has the head of a lion and the body of a fish, and symbolises Singapore’s origins as a fishing village. SENTOSA Sentosa is a small island just off Singapore’s southern coastline. Featuring pristine beaches, a golf course and Universal Studios, and lots of other attractions In the film, this location is where Nick and Colin escape to after the bachelor party FULLERTON STEPS and BRIDGE The area around the historic Fullerton Hotel is featured in two scenes. On the way to Colin’s wedding, Astrid confronts Michael over his affair. He stops the car and gets out on Anderson Bridge, which is right next to the Fullerton Later in the film, on the steps just opposite the hotel, is a key scene where Nick comforts Rachel and tries to talk her round to staying with him CJHIMES Chjimes, in Victoria Street, is the set for the elaborate wedding between Colin and Awaminta. In real life this beautiful building was originally part of a convent, and the called Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus Chapel. Just like the characters in the film, you too could rent this venue for a wedding. The only problem is that you need to be crazy rich to do so BUKIT PASOH BP in Chinatown is where where Rachel has a heart-to-heart with her college roommate Peik Lin, but it's also just a really a great place to visit The actual location is number 20, the site of the Humpback Restaurant, immediately opposite the Reading Room ANN SIANG ROAD In the film, Rachel asks the disapproving Eleanor to meet her at a ma-jong parlour for a crucial showdown between the two characters. The exterior shots for this scene were shot here in Ann Siang road, just adjacent to Club Street. GARDENS BY THE BAY Gardens by the Bay is Singapore's latest multi award winning attraction. Over 40 million people visiting since it opened in 2011. These amazing ‘living’ Super trees bring scale and drama to the Gardens and are a must see if you visit Singapore. However, being outside its unlikely you’ll manage to stay as cool and composed as the guests are in the film MBS Lastly, the culmination of the film with Nick and Rachael taking centre stage takes place at the iconic Marina Bay Sands. MBS as it’s known as in Singapore, is a huge integrated resort that includes a luxury hotel and the world's highest and largest infinity pool. Oh, and you can do plenty of luxury shopping here too, if you want a taste of the crazy rich lifestyle the people in the story have.
