Ironman Racine was a full-filling destination race. With a very vibrant town centre, public harbour and park. With just a day to have a look around before we could blink it was go time. The forecast had a weather system on schedule with the race and we resorted to hoping for the best. The best did not happen, the beautiful morning quickly deteriorated with lightning and showers. The nutritional plans were reset and we all played the waiting game. Finally they made the call, the format changed to Duathlon and we would bike and run only. Takeaways: -Be prepared for everything -Saddle bottles should be rubber band in place along with a gorilla cage. The first 5k of this race goes through a residential zone with stress fractures in the payment, bumpy ride. -walk with electrolyte bottle race morning, you may be waiting around in the sun at some point) -travel with friends/family/teammates to share the experience.
