인천공항 캡슐호텔 '다락 휴' 20일부터 운영 개시 To provide the most comfortable rest for transit or late-night passengers,... Incheon International Airport opened the nations' first capsule hotel. Our Oh Jung-hee files us this report from the airport. Using an airport can be strenuous, especially if there are layovers, cancellations, and delays. But a new service has opened at Korea's main gateway, to make traveling a much more pleasant experience. Incheon International Airport opened the very first capsule hotel in Korea called 'Darak Hyu,' meaning 'a rest in the attic,'... and started services on Friday. The capsule hotel has sixty rooms of four different types... with prices ranging from 7-thousand to 11-thousand Korean won per hour, or roughly six to nine U.S. dollars. "The rooms are small but fully equipped... to give transit and late-night passengers a comfortable stay. And unlike the original capsule hotels, the rooms have a full-sized bed and a shower." With a keyless system integrated into the Internet of Things, users can open doors, check in or out, and even control lighting and room temperatures just by using a smartphone app. "We believe the capsule hotel can enhance convenience for customers, while strengthening the airport's competence. With this hotel and services in mind, passengers will have more options in terms of scheduling their departure and arrival times along their journeys." Airport users overall showed positive expectations towards the capsule hotel. "People could wait for their flights in a more comfortable way than just sitting on the benches here. Staying in the hotel would be also nice for customers whose flights depart at dawn or for those who come from faraway regions." "Some stops are 7 hours so I cannot go out to the city and I have to stay for transfer. and I really want to take shower. If its around 7 dollars per hour, it's quite affordable for us students. The capsule hotel is expected to lessen the downsides of any journey and provide passengers going through Incheon International Airport with a more relaxed and comfortable experience. In the late ‘70s, Metabolist architect Kisho Kurokawa (designer of the Nakagin capsule tower) dreamt up “a hotel for 2001”. The idea was to do away with rooms and implement simple crawl spaces for sleeping. Today the capsule hotel concept is well-known in Japan. Originally popularized by businesspeople who missed the last train, these sleeping pods have been given a sleeker makeover. Located near Kyoto’s Gion (the traditional geisha district), 9 Hours has re-developed the capsule concept befitting the iPhone generation: the pods are minimal, functional and easy to use (thanks to the icons on the walls and floors). The *faircompanies family spent a night in these affordable ($40/night) pods and found these sleep crawl spaces (220 cm long by 108 cm wide and high) surprisingly spacious (even for sharing with a toddler). 최고를 향한 인천공항의 노력과 과제 Incheon International Airport has claimed many honors since it opened 15 years ago. But it seems Korea's gateway is still hungry for excellence. Hwang Hojun has this report. Incheon International Airport has been recognized as the best airport in the world by the Airports Council International for an eleventh straight year. It's the highest accolade an airport can receive. But there's more. The airport has also surpassed the 500-million mark for accumulated number of visitors... and has the eighth highest international passenger traffic in the world. "It means they're doing their job very well. And it is easy to navigate and people are helpful." The airport strives to impress its customers with amenities such as premium duty-free shops, a quality medical center, a movie theater and even a spa. Visitors can also experience Korean culture through the multiple cultural events scheduled throughout the day. However, a great amount of effort is necessary for the airport to maintain its high standard of service. "Complacency does not seem to be an issue. I'm coming back next year, looking forward to it, and I expect that the things that I like will still be here, and I'll be surprised by something new." The airport has also had to overcome its share of challenges. Earlier this year, there were a couple of embarrassing security breaches and luggage mishandling incidents. "The airport is already reaching its maximum capacity, which is the main cause of those mishaps. But we'll be able to prevent issues like these, as we'll get much more breathing room when the third phase of our construction project is done in 2017." The project includes a second terminal, which will allow the airport to support over 62 million passengers and a thousand flights a day. The airport has also signed an agreement to build a resort called Inspire, with completion set for 2020. The facility will include six-star hotels, theme parks, shopping centers and a casino -- all practically adjacent to the airport. "Winning the best airport service quality award for 11 consecutive years is an impressive accomplishment. But there are still hurdles to overcome, and Korea's flagship airport plans to continue to evolve and put the needs of its customers first. Hwang Hojun, Arirang News, Incheon." We're back at another capsule hotel in Tokyo and this time is a retro one ー and it's men only! (And we'll answer the question of why?) The Salaryman World of the 1970s is still alive at this capsule hotel in Okachimachi, Tokyo. It's a throwback to an era when men worked late and women stayed at home. Although there are now women-only capsule hotels and pods that take both men and women, the capsule hotel and sauna we're visiting is still men's only and has no desire to change ー and that's its attraction! It's authentic. Since the tourist boom to Japan started in 2014, new capsule hotels have been popping up in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto that cater specifically to the needs of tourists. The modern decor and new hotel-like services raise the price for a stay, but Spa Resort President is no such place. It's a refuge for guys, very few foreigners and a unique feeling of being trapped in time. Privacy is minimal, the bath is excellent and the food is outstanding! It's what Japanese guys are used to. I have to admit, it's not an experience for everyone. It seems perfect for backpackers or people who just need a pad to crash -- guys only -- but for this episode, we all get a look inside and see what an all male capsule hotel is like. Leave a comment and tell me what you think? Would you stay here? ▶︎ Where is this Capsule Hotel? SPA RESORT PRESIDENT https://goo.gl/maps/9ULrCyYHFKz Located 1 minute from JR Okachimachi Station, 10 minutes from Ueno Station and Akihabara.
