The new Vulcan line of welders for Harbor Freight are now available, and people are interested in how they perform. They represent an attempt by Harbor Freight to offer better welders that compete favorably with name brand welders, but this means they are a lot more expensive than what you might expect from Harbor Freight. I picked one up to find out for myself it they are worth the money. This video is part one, where I just give an overview of the features and included accessories, as well as giving my first impressions of the build quality. I will upload part two soon, where I will do some welding it the machine and see how it does. Part 2: https://youtu.be/zL1sKFBvdoE
I really really really want to like this welder. Multiprocess and under $1k? Yes please. Cliffnotes, the welder is great, but Harbor Freight needs to step up their customer service game! Review of my harbor freight mig welder
I decided to try and make my trailer nice with some welding projects, paint and wiring, and a grinder disk explosion along the way. An overview and startup.
This was my first time using a mig machine. (SEE Updated 1/4 inch welding video: https://youtu.be/TmMyRhhCjcs ) I am used to gas oxy acet, stick, and tig. This is a 120 volt machine and is not rated for up to 1/4 steel in one pass. If you need to weld that thick, first V out the 1/4 plate. Here I am trying to weld 1/4 in thick plate steel using .030 mild steel wire and 22 CFH 75% argon 25 % Co2 gas mix. You have to stay close to the metal and keep a steady speed. I am using the hottest 'E' setting and 5 FPS wire feed. This is not recommended, it is something I just tried. I beveled both sides of the 1/4 inch plate and wire brushed the metal first. I am using a 12 AWG extension cord on a 20 amp breaker and welding this hot does trip the breaker, a lower setting is alright on a 20 amp. However the machine does not cut out like some others may do.
Yea, Harbor Freight got serious with the OmniPro 220, these machines make the Chicago Electric Welders seem like total crap! This video is about digging out a stump with my new trencher. The stump took about 3 hours to remove and was about 20 inches diameter. I am happy with the performance, but have a couple of areas that need beefing up in the future. The background music is royalty free from http://www.bensound.com
