Survey: Many consider this song a fan favorite. What is your favorite Foo Fighters song? Fun Facts: Released on August 18, 1997, “Everlong” was written by Grohl after he fell in love with the band Veruca Salt’s Louise Post; he explained, “That song's about a girl that I'd fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly.” Even though drummer Taylor Hawkins appeared in the song’s surreal and satirical music video, it was actually Dave Grohl who laid down the drum track for “Everlong.” David Letterman has said that “Everlong” is his favorite song and that it helped him recover from his heart surgery in 2000, to which Dave Grohl stated that he was “blown away.” The band cancelled a show in South America to perform “Everlong” on The Late Show with David Letterman after the comedian’s surgery. They also played the same song during Letterman’s final episode on May 20, 2015. According to Dave Grohl, rock legend Bob Dylan has also praised the song. Considered a fan favorite and one of the band’s most popular hits, it has received many accolades, including a nomination for Best Rock Video at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards and a rank of #1 in Triple M's 2014 Modern Rock 500, which charted listeners' most popular rock songs since the 1980s. “Everlong” scored twice as many votes as the #2 song, “Black” by Pearl Jam. Today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Foo Fighters’ The Colour and the Shape. Enjoy! All rights reserved to Foo Fighters and Capitol and Roswell Records.
