Don't Cry For Me Argentina official music video. From the soundtrack of the motion picture and album Evita. 1996 - Warner Bros. Records, Inc.
Don't Cry For Me Argentina - Madonna Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber Lyrics: Tim Rice The song was written in 1976 in memory of Evita Perón, the second wife of Argentine President Juan Perón. Footage in the video is from the film: «Eva Perón» by Juan Carlos Desanzo, starring Esther Goris and Victor Laplace. The song was initially performed by Julie Covington and its name came from an inscription on the plaque of Evita Peron's grave at Recoleta cemetery in Buenos Aires. Madonna sang the same song in 1996, in the musical drama: Evita, directed by Alan Parker and written by Parker and Oliver Stone. The film starred Madonna as Evita Perón, Antonio Banderas as Ché and Jonathan Pryce as Juan Perón. It won't be easy, you'll think it strange when I try to explain how I feel that I still need your love after all that I've done. You won't believe me all you will see is a girl you once knew although she's dressed up to the nines at sixes and sevens with you. I had to let it happen, I had to change couldn't stay all my life down at heel looking out of the window, staying out of the sun. So I chose freedom running around, trying everything new but nothing impressed me at all I never expected it to. Don't cry for me Argentina the truth is I never left you all through my wild days my mad existence I kept my promise don't keep your distance. And as for fortune and as for fame I never invited them in though it seemed to the world they were all I desired. They are illusions they are not the solutions they promised to be the answer was here all the time I love you and hope you love me. Don't cry for me Argentina. Don't cry for me Argentina the truth is I never left you all through my wild days my mad existence I kept my promise don't keep your distance. Have I said too much? there's nothing more I can think of to say to you but all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true.

Created by Dimitris Tsaganos - Artist: Madonna - "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" is a song from the 1978 musical "Evita" with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón. Sung by the title character Eva Perón, the song was titled "It's Only Your Lover Returning" before Rice settled on the eventual name. It appears early in the Act II as Evita addresses the crowd from the balcony of the Casa Rosada and features a sweeping melody tied to broad emotional themes of regret and defiance. She speaks to her adoring supporters, revealing that despite her initial goal of achieving fame and glory, she has found her true calling to be the people of her country. "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" appeared also near the end of the show, as the spirit of the dead Eva Perón exhorts the people of Argentina not to mourn her. Tim Rice points out that in this instance "cry" refers to shouting or calling out rather than weeping. As a child stamp collector, Tim Rice had been fascinated by Eva Perón's image on the Argentine stamps, but was unaware of her significance in Argentina's history. He began research and the more Rice investigated Eva Perón, going so far as to travel to Buenos Aires to research her life with many documents and contacts, the more fascinated he became by the woman; he even named his first daughter after her. It was not until 1996 that "Evita" came to the big screen. Alan Parker directed the film, with Madonna in the title role, Antonio Banderas as Che and Jonathan Pryce as Perón. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards. Madonna's interpretation, not only in this song but in the whole musical, is wonderful and exciting... ___________________________________________________ *Correction in 2nd Image (title): "Don't *Cry* for Me Argentina" ___________________________________________________ "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" It won't be easy, you'll think it strange When I try to explain how I feel That I still need your love after all that I've done You won't believe me All you will see is a girl you once knew Although she's dressed up to the nines At sixes and sevens with you I had to let it happen, I had to change Couldn't stay all my life down at heel Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun So I chose freedom Running around, trying everything new But nothing impressed me at all I never expected it to Don't cry for me Argentina The truth is I never left you All through my wild days My mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance And as for fortune, and as for fame I never invited them in Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired They are illusions They are not the solutions they promised to be The answer was here all the time I love you and hope you love me Don't cry for me Argentina Have I said too much? I get out here Buenos Aires Stand back You ought to know whatcha gonna get in me Just a little touch of star quality! Fill me up with your heat, with your noise With your dirt, overdo me Let me dance to your beat, make it loud Let it hurt, run it through me Don't hold back you are certain to impress Tell the driver this is where I'm staying Hello Buenos Aires! Get this Just look at me, dressed up somewhere to go We'll put on a show! Take me in at your flood, give me speed Give me lights, set me humming Shoot me up with your blood Wine me up with your nights, watch me coming All I want is a whole lot of excess Tell the singer this is where I'm playing Stand back Buenos Aires! Because you ought to know whatcha gonna get in me Just a little touch of star quality! And if ever I go too far It's because of the things you are Beautiful town I love you And if I need a moment's rest Give your lover the very best Real eiderdown and silence You're a tramp, you're a treat You will shine to the death, you are shoddy But you're flesh, you are meat You shall have every breath in my body Put me down for a lifetime of success Give me credit I'll find ways of paying Rio de la Plata! Florida! Corrientes! Nueve de Julio! All I want to know! Stand back Buenos Aires!
