Forum - I'm Alright Now - Track 10

The Forum were a one-man, two-woman easy listening vocal group with sunshine pop overtones, landing a number 45 hit with "The River Is Wide" in 1967 (the song also became a Top 40 hit for the Grass Roots a couple of years later). "The River Is Wide" sounded something like an easy listening spin on the Righteous Brothers, particularly in Phil Campos' deep and slightly operatic vocals. An album of the same name also appeared featuring (as had the single) production by easy listening maestro Les Baxter, who also wrote about half of the material. While intricately produced and boasting creamy soft California pop harmonies, the songs and arrangements were at the most saccharine end of sunshine pop, complete with oh-so-slight psychedelic touches on "Trip on Me" (which became the follow-up single to "The River Is Wide"). Comprised of Phil Campos, his future wife Rene Nole, and teenager Riselle Bain, the Forum were formed in 1966 by Campos, who had appeared on numerous hootenanny folk albums during the folk revival. The group didn't last long after "The River Is Wide," with Bain going solo while Campos and Nole married and formed a duo. The album The River Is Wide was reissued on CD in 2002 with numerous alternate takes, unreleased tracks, and B-sides appended as bonus cuts. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

Featuring a pinching interview with Christian from the band: I MOTHER EARTH and some live performance footage of the band: ELEVEN! If you're interested in licensing a band interview for your documentary project, please contact www.diablosdelsolproductions.com on the CONTACT page. Bobby Diablo hosts from Beautiful Downtown Burbank for Foundation Forums' 93 Metal Convention! Kasrvnotebook: I Mother Earth, or IME, was a Canadian alternative rock band. The band was at the peak of its popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s; its members have moved on to other projects. Brothers Christian and Jagori Tanna (a stage name adopted through their admiration for Carlos Santana) met vocalist Edwin at their shared rehearsal space in Toronto around 1990. Edwin asked the brothers to form a band with him, and the three came together in 1991, taking on Franz Masini as a bass player. The band came up with the name IME, as in "I Am Me", but later decided the letters should stand for something. Jag Tanna plucked I Mother Earth out of the air and has always insisted it has no special meaning. The band, represented by a professionally-recorded five-song demo, played a mere thirteen shows over the next year. These were noted for their jam sessions, poetry readings, and murals painted in the background during the songs. At the end of the year, the band was in the middle of a bidding war between labels. IME ended up being signed to EMI in Canada, and Capitol for the U.S. and internationally. for more info: http://www.myspace.com/imotherearthband Kasrvnotebook2: Eleven is an indie rock band hailing from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990 by Alain Johannes (vocals, guitar, sitar, horns), Natasha Shneider (vocals, keyboards, bass), and Jack Irons (drums). Eleven's early history is intertwined with that of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As teenagers Irons and Johannes formed the band Anthym with Michael Balzary (Flea) and Hillel Slovak; this band was soon to be renamed What Is This?. The members of What Is This? then joined with Anthony Kiedis to form the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but Slovak and Irons also continued to record with Johannes, and What Is This? released the EP Squeezed with Chris Hutchinson playing bass. After the recording of the self-titled second What Is This? album, Slovak and Irons discontinued the band to concentrate full time on the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Schneider and Johannes met and formed the duo Walk The Moon, which featured Jack Irons and Chris Hutchinson on several tracks. When Irons later left The Red Hot Chili Peppers he teamed up with his former bandmate Johannes and his new partner to form Eleven. Midway through the recording of Eleven's third album, Thunk, Irons departed again to drum with Pearl Jam, and Matt Cameron played drums on the album's remaining four tracks. Irons was replaced by Greg Upchurch for their fourth album, Avantegardedog, but returned to the band once again prior to the recording of their fifth album, Howling Book. Ric Markmann played bass for Eleven on stage, though he did not feature on any of their albums. Eleven have toured with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age, and Johannes and Schneider have also become a sought-after production team working on albums such as Chris Cornell's Euphoria Morning (on which they also wrote, performed and toured), No Doubt's Return Of Saturn, Steadman's Revive, and The Desert Sessions 7&8 and 9&10 with Josh Homme. Most of the recording takes place at 11AD, their home studio - Howling Book was self-produced, recorded and mixed in its entirety at 11AD. The band cites their major influences as Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Sergei Prokofiev. With Chris Cornell, they recorded Shneider's arrangement of Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria", which appears on the album, A Very Special Christmas 3, in the liner notes of which they state they deliberately chose a classical work to help interest young people in classical music. for more info: http://www.elevenworld.com KASR VIDEO was a weekly 2 hour offshoot of the Arizona State University's original alternative radio station that aired on public access in Phoenix. The music video show featured rarely scene and new music not in the "main stream." Along with non-conventional interviews it became a guilty pleasure with the midnight party crowd. IT's been edited as a sort of best of; minus the music videos. For more info on ASU Student radio goto: http://www.theblaze1260.com

SPINE | Eastman Percussion Ensemble PASIC17

About this piece: a single line runs through most of the piece, and virtually all of the musical material is derived from it. This meta-line (performed by Percussion 1) serves as the “spine” of the music, both in structural terms (backbone), but also with respect to the line’s perceived control over the direction and progression of the music (central nervous system). The material played by the supporting members of the quartet colors and punctuates the main line. Over the course of the work, players drift in and out of agreement with one another, and occasionally the primary line loses its unique identity within the texture of the ensemble. I tried to impart an almost biological sense to the way motives grow, attempting to balance intuitive, almost improvisatory, types of development with more structured patterns and processes. Spine is dedicated to the players of the Yale Percussion Group for their unwavering support. Performed here by Stella Perlic, Greg Doscher, Kevin Zetina and Victor LaBozzetta ___ The Eastman Percussion Ensemble is comprised of upperclassmen and graduate percussion students of the Eastman School of Music. Under the direction of Evans Artist and world-renowned percussionist Michael Burritt, its repertoire ranges from contemporary genres to world music and improvisation. #PASIC17 Video shot by: four/ten media (http://fourtenmedia.net/) ___ Watch the latest videos by subscribing here: http://ddar.io/subscribe Learn more about the program: https://www.esm.rochester.edu/percussion/ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/evansdrumheads Like Evans on Facebook: http://fb.com/evansdrumheads Follow Evans on Twitter: http://twitter.com/evansdrumheads ___ Video used with permission.
