Filtering Date Columns and Working With Null Or Empty Values using SQL Select DBMS Tutorial (vid 4)

Filtering Date Columns and Working With Null Or Empty Values using SQL Select DBMS Tutorial (vid 4)

The most difficult part when working with dates is to be sure that the format of the date you are trying to insert, matches the format of the date column in the database. As long as your data contains only the date portion, your queries will work as expected. However, if a time portion is involved, it gets more complicated. SQL Server comes with the following data types for storing a date or a date/time value in the database: DATE - format YYYY-MM-DD DATETIME - format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS SMALLDATETIME - format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MI:SS TIMESTAMP - format: a unique number What is a NULL Value? A field with a NULL value is a field with no value. If a field in a table is optional, it is possible to insert a new record or update a record without adding a value to this field. Then, the field will be saved with a NULL value. Note: It is very important to understand that a NULL value is different from a zero value or a field that contains spaces. A field with a NULL value is one that has been left blank during record creation!
