And it's important to keep in mind which objects CAN and CAN'T take hyperlinks in PowerPoint. Objects that can take a hyperlink include: * SmartArt graphics can take multiple hyperlinks. The SmartArt group itself, can take a hyperlink as can each of the individual objects within the SmartArt graphic. * Charts can take hyperlinks, but only one of them. You cannot add additional hyperlinks to the individual charting elements. Objects that CANNOT take a hyperlink: * Groups of objects cannot take a hyperlink * Tables themselves cannot take hyperlinks, but the text within a table can take a hyperlink. +++++++++ To learn more PowerPoint tricks and download slides, see our other posts: 15 Insanely Actionable Storytelling tips - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/storytelling-tips/ How to Create a Venn Diagram - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/how-to-create-a-venn-diagram-in-powerpoint/ Creating the Overlapping Piece of a Venn Diagram - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/how-to-make-the-overlapping-part-of-a-venn-diagram/ How to put a YouTube Video in PowerPoint - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/how-to-put-a-youtube-video-in-powerpoint/ Aligning Objects Between Slides - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/aligning-objects-between-your-powerpoint-slides-the-smart-way/ Installing the Hammer Tool - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/must-have-powerpoint-tool-the-hammer-tool/ Creating Picture Transparencies (The Fast Way) - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/how-to-create-transparent-pictures-in-powerpoint/ Editing Vector Graphics - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/jump-start-presentations-vector-graphics/ PPT Best Practices, The Formatting Guides - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/powerpoint-best-practices-create-consistency-with-formatting-guides/ PPT Best Practices, the QAT - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/customize-your-qat/ Protecting Your Presentations - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/protect-your-powerpoint-presentation/ Making Objects Appear And Disappear - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/triggers-for-appear-disappear-animations-in-powerpoint/ Turning Bullet Points Into Shapes - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/life-cycle-of-a-list-of-bullet-points-in-powerpoint/ Creating a Mouseover Effect - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/powerpoint-mouseover-text-effect/ Creating False Animations - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/false-powerpoint-animation/ Four PowerPoint Tricks You Should Know - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/4-things-can-do-powerpoint/ Moving Beyond Default Formatting - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/beyond-default-formatting/ Breaking Up Your Bullet Points - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/breaking-up-bullets/ Highlighting Your Point Visually - https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/highlight-your-point-visually/

Although there are a number of things you can do with hyperlinks to add navigational features to your PowerPoint presentations, you can also just use them to display what is known as "rollover or mouseover text" onscreen during a PowerPoint presentation. And this is especially a neat trick when combined with hide and appear animations within your layouts. This PowerPoint trick works in all versions of Microsoft PowerPoint including PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2010, PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2016. A couple of quick notes to remember when using hyperlinks to display rollover text onscreen in PowerPoint: #1: You are limited to 256 characters (including spaces), which is approximately 48 words #2: You can only view the rollover text in the presentation mode of your PowerPoint deck (it will not display in the normal view of your deck) #3: You want to link the hyperlink to the slide on which you want to display the rollover text so that if you click the link, you remain on the same slide (unless you want to hyperlink somewhere else within your document) Shortcuts covered in this PowerPoint tutorial: -- CTRL + K - with either text or an object selected, opens the insert hyperlink dialog box -- SHIFT + F5 - starts your presentation mode from the current slide you are on This PowerPoint tricks works in PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2010, PowerPoint 2013 and PowerPoint 2016.
