Building your own chainsaw mill from scratch to accommodate your bar and powerhead is a great way to produce lumber from logs. Milling this way is a versatile and low cost entry point to logging and yields slabs and rough cut boards to your own dimensions. +++++Plans, Tools, and Parts+++++ If you click the affiliate links below and make a purchase, I receive a commission. If you aren't modeling your parts before fabrication, you really should be. It is invaluable to "build" things in software prior to building them in the shop. You can iterate your assembly details many times yet not add mass to your scrap bin. If you don't feel like tackling the software on your own, I highly recommend Mike Moyer's course [Fusion 360 For Hobbyists and Woodworkers](http://mikeandlauren.thinkific.com/courses/fusion-360-for-hobbyist-and-woodworkers?ref=ff6910). If you buy the course using this link, I will send you the Shaper model and the Ram Facing Illustration model. 5 Basic steps to building a DIY sawmill.
So here it is at last. Milling with the 070 Clone. I haven't yet received my rip chain but wanted to try it out anyway. My friend Will cut the first couple slabs with his Makita then we put the Clone into the granberg mill and let er rip. All in all I'm mildly impressed with it. It didn't bog down much and when it did it went right back to cutting speed without issue. My 2 cuts were the widest slabs and I actually out paced the Makita on its widest cut. Support us on Patreon: http://bit.ly/2tdla40 When we first started milling lumber, we thought we'd try a homemade chainsaw mill. It did do the job, we milled up five 8' sections of tree and then built the framework of a 16x16 foot deck with it. However, as we plan on building a timber frame barn and house, we wanted something that was a little more precise, a little more sturdy (or a lot more sturdy), a little more safe, and a little more professional. Enter the Granberg chainsaw mill. In this video we'll try out the Granberg mill for the first time. We will do a lot of chainsaw milling this spring, summer and fall so stay tuned for updates and more technical videos where we'll talk about the best chains, more comparisons to a homemade version, and how to find-tune your mill.
