Enjoying life February 13th is my birthday
San Francisco Voice for Israel had a bonfire on a chilly Lag B'Omer (actually the 35th day) on Sunday, May 25th, 2008 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, California. We closed the celebrations by singing "HaTikva," The Hope, the Israeli national anthem.

So, what's the best way to warm up? Bring some blankets, a jacket or two, and come out to Ocean Beach to enjoy a bonfire, a sunset, and some quality time with friends. The fire pits are between Fulton and Lincoln. On a sunny day, get there early if you want to get an actual fire pit! Need to kill a little time waiting for the crew to show up, go for a surf or set up a volleyball net! PACK LIST Blankets Jackets Firewood & matches Hot Dogs & marshmallows RULES Make sure you follow the rules! The park rangers here have gotten particularly more stingy in recent years about following the rules to have a bonfire. Do be aware that the rangers will come around at 9pm sharp every night with a shovel to put out your bonfire. Rules you should obey: - Keep your fire in an actual fire pit. If you fail to do this you might get cited. Be sure to get there early (around 5pm) to reserve your spot. They're free and first come first serve. - Have a water pail to put out your fire nearby. Although fire can't spread on sand, the park rangers get annoyed if you don't have anything to put it out with. You can just bring a bucket and fill it with ocean water. - Alcohol is not permitted. A lot of people drink anyway. In my experiences, and I've done a few bonfires, it seems the rangers are very used to it and are pretty lenient about it. - Last but not least, don't piss the rangers off. They will most likely find a way to cite you if you annoy them. When they come around at 9 to put out your fire, obey them and pack up. If you don't, you'll probably get a ticket. There is a Safeway across the street, if you need to fill up on supplies. They also have firewood, but it's definitely cheaper to get it elsewhere or bring your own. All in all, it's always a lot of fun. DRESS WARM!
