In this episode we present the history of the Battle Beasts. Not the most successful 80's toyline ever and largely reliant on a simplistic gimmick, Battle Beasts have nevertheless developed a large and devoted following over the years. http://www.popculturenetwork.com In this week's video review, Pixel Dan takes a look at an obscure yet awesome toy line from the 80's: Hasbro's Battle Beasts! Fire! Water! Wood!
1987 was a year for terrible films (Leonard Part 6, anyone?) and tremendous Toys. Along with Dino-Riders, "Battle Beats" were the most epic figures to enter my 6-year old world. Long before I learned the nuance of "Paper, Rock, Scissors" I knew that Wood beats Water, water beats Fire, and Fire Beats Wood. Collect all 84! I Nearly did. Recorded in Fall 1987 off USA Cartoon Express For Copyright issues, refer to Copyright Act of 1978, Section C: Article 107: the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified in that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research is not an Infringement of copyright. The purpose and character of this use is for non-profit, educational purposes.
I conclude my two parter on Battle Beasts. I bring my collection and review what I got so far. I am still hunting them down, but probably will never have a complete set. Pictures of all of the Battle Beasts ever made...............this is part one figures 1 thru 43. Enjoy
The Transformator - Episode 12 "BATTLE BEASTS" The Battle Beasts figures were released first in Japan by the Takara Co. It was not until later when Hasbro acquired the rights to sell the figures here in the U.S. However, this seemed like a fitting partnership since Hasbro and Takara more than succeeded with their previous Transformers toy line. As part of the Takara strategy, many of the Battle Beasts figures appeared in the episode "Rebellion on Planet Beast" from the Japanese Transformers cartoon series "Transformers: The Headmasters." Unfortunately, the Transformers G1 series had ended here in the states so we missed out on the last season of Transformers and we missed the unbelievable Transformers / Battle Beasts team up! WHY!?!?! Anyways, the Battle Beasts reside on the planet "Beast" and several of the figures are shown prominently throughout the episode. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find an English dub at the time of this posting, so I have no additional lore to provide here for the time being.
I found a box with some old toys of mine, and in it were these Battle Beasts, a collectible toy from the late 1980s. Do you remember Battle Beasts (known in Japan as BeastFormers), later renamed Laser Beasts? Leave us a comment, and we always appreciate subscribers!
