Bass Barn Seabass Trip June 4 2010_0001.wmv

Bass Barn Seabass trip onboard the Capt Robbins out of Sea Isle City, NJ. There are no"action shots" because I was too busy trying towin the pool. The seabass were scarce, but the good-sized ling and occasional keeper cod more than made this trip entertaining. My intention was to match the faces with the handles of fellow barners. I met some good folk and thoroughly enkoyd the beautiful day on the ocean. Looking forward to the next get together. Tight lines...

Upton Bass: Tour the UB Barn in Mystic!

Upton Bass: Tour the UB Barn in Mystic!

Gary Upton gives a video tour of the Upton Bass workshop in Mystic, Connecticut. Every double bass from Upton Bass is completely hand built at this facility (everything but the metal parts!) Call or come see us at: Upton Bass String Instrument Co. 159 Packer Rd Mystic, CT 06355 (860) 535-9399 http://www.UptonBass.com Also, add us to your Google + Circles and Join our community at: https://plus.google.com/+uptonbass Please Like us on Facebook for more great updates and information. https://www.facebook.com/gary.uptonbass Hey, guys. It's Gary with Upton Bass. We wanted to officially welcome everyone online that is not able to come and see in person our barn. This is where all of the Upton Basses are made, within these walls, everything other than the metal parts. In the summer of 2012, we did a traditional barn raising here, family and friends pushing up all the beams, white pine local to the area. All of the stuff from the foundation up the sill plate is white oak local to the area. You'll see the big rocky foundation back there. That's all handcut granite, original stones from the 1700s those guys moved with horses and who knows what. We're making double basses, but that's not as amazing as guys in the 18th century. Look at these stones. This stone is 8-9" thick. Gosh, it must way a ton, 2,000 pounds easy. More, right? This whole building is put together with these immense, huge granite stones from the area. It just blows my mind. Out here, we're not in the barn, we're out behind the barn, we have our own woodshed. In here there's probably enough wood for us to make basses for the next five, ten years, maybe even a little longer. We've got a few hundred tops. We've got more wood obviously inside. We'll show you that in a moment. What wood's out here seasoning. Seasoning, for me, is being out in the cold, being out in the hot. Obviously, we don't pull the wood right from here and get to making basses with it. It comes inside, it lives inside for a very long time before we then turn it into a bass. Down here in the basement of the building we have all of our machinery: band saws, table saws, noisy things like what Eric's using. [Somewhere we're not all the time 00:01:44]. This is where everything's pressed before we bring it upstairs to start working on it with our hands. This is the main workshop floor where all the instruments go together. Every single Upton Bass begins here one way or another, from [grid form 02:13] going together to finishing, varnish, setup, you name it. It all happens here. Then we go upstairs. Last but by no means least is the showroom here in Mystic. A lot of times you'll see in here instruments that we've just finished making downstairs. They're up here waiting for their owners to come and pick them up. It's a great place to come and see good examples of current Upton Basses finish up here on the showroom floor of the barn. I know a lot of people travel from afar to come see us, and million other people can't come and see us. We hope you can someday. This is the Upton Bass bar
