Chicago - Old Town School of Folk Music - 02.27.2014 "Different Pulses" My life is like a wound I scratch so I can bleed Regurgitate my words, I write so I can feed And Death grows like a tree that's planted in my chest Its roots are at my feet, I walk so it won't rest Oh, Baby I am Lost... I try to push the colors through a prism back to white To sync our different pulses into a blinding light And if love is not the key. If love is not a key. I hope that I can find a place where it could be I know that in your heart there is an answer to a question That I'm not as yet aware that I have asked And if that tree had not drunk my tears I would have bled and cried for all the years That I alone have let them pass Oh, Baby I am yours...

Oh Ariadne, I'm coming, I just need to work this maze inside my mind I wish I had that string, it's so damn dark, I think I'm going blind Oh Ariadne, I just need to work this maze inside my mind For the life of me I don't remember what I came to find Now tell me princess are you strolling through your sacred grove? And is the moon still shining? You're the only thing I'm thinking of The sword you gave me, it was heavy, I just had to lay it down It's funny how defenseless I can feel here when there's nobody around Oh Ariadne, I'm coming, I just need to work this maze inside my heart I was blind, I thought you'd bind me, but you offered me a chart Oh Ariadne, I just need to work this maze inside my heart If I'd known that you could guide me, I'd have listened from the start Somewhere up there midnight strikes, I think I hear the fall Of little drops of water, magnified against the barren wall It's more a feeling than a substance, but there's nobody around And when I'm in here all alone, it's just enough to let me drown Oh Ariadne, I was coming, but I failed you in this labyrinth of my past Oh Ariadne, let me sing you, and we'll make each other last Oh Ariadne, I have failed you in this labyrinth of my past Oh Ariadne, let me sing you, and we'll make each other last SHOP AVIDAN IN A DOX II - goo.gl/nlsZD5

Live Session Le Mouv' She can make the birds and bees get down on their little knees she can whisper to the breeze and make her tear the bark off trees She can make a fog horn ring she can make the mountains swing she will make you clip your wing she can teach your tears to sing She's just a small change girl X4 but she's a world to me She can turn her flesh to steel but she can't get her scars to heal she can make you think she's real she can make a diamond peel she can get your bed to shrink she can get your ears to blink she can get you eyes to think and she can get a horse to drink She's just a small change girl X4 but she's a world to me

So I'm driving down the road when I hear this incredible voice coming out of my car speakers — part Janis Joplin, part Nina Simone — and I wonder, "Who is she?" That day, I'd ripped a number of CDs onto my phone and didn't remember which record this was. Upon a quick glance at my phone during a traffic light, I discover the name Asaf Avidan. Next traffic light, I look it up and I see a picture of a skinny, handsome white male. I figure that's a mistake — that I must have typed the wrong name — so I wait to get home. What I discovered floored me. Asaf Avidan is a 33-year-old, very well-known Israeli singer, formerly with a folkish rock band with gold records called Asaf Avidan & The Mojos. He's now on his own with a solo record and no U.S. record label to put it out, but he's on a solo tour that's stunning. He stopped us all cold when he began to sing at the Tiny Desk. There's a disconnect, when you watch this, between what you see and what you hear. And those songs that he writes? Well, he truly understands his voice, and they're just some of the best tunes I've heard in a long time. --BOB BOILEN Set List "My Latest Sin" "Different Pulses" "Reckoning Song" Credits Producers: Bob Boilen, Denise DeBelius; Editor: Olivia Merrion; Audio Engineer: Kevin Wait; Videographers: Denise DeBelius, Gabriella Garcia-Pardo, Olivia Merrion; photo by Jim Tuttle/NPR
