Classification

Classification

Explores classification in biology as well as taxonomy hierarchy: domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species with The Amoeba Sisters! This video also discusses the importance of scientific names and why classification can have major changes due to DNA and cell structure evidence. Video has a handout: http://www.amoebasisters.com/handouts.html. See table of contents by expanding details 👇 Table of Contents: Importance of DNA in naming 1:04 Classification Mnemonic 1:41 Domains 2:04 Kingdoms 3:51 Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus 5:52 Species and Scientific Name 6:06 Common Name vs Scientific Name 6:49 Important Vocabulary: Prokaryotes vs. Eukaryotes 3:42 Autotrophs vs. Heterotrophs 4:43 Unicellular vs. Multicellular 4:50 Cell Wall vs No Cell Wall 4:54 (All cells have a membrane!) But there's a mispronunciation here for that domain just to let you know. Fruit sorting using digital image processing

Fruit sorting using digital image processing

Nondestructive quality evaluation of fruits is important and very vital for the food and agricultural industry. The fruits in the market should satisfy the consumer preferences. Traditionally grading of fruits is performed primarily by visual inspection using size as a particular quality attribute. Image processing offers solution for automated fruit size grading to provide accurate, reliable, consistent and quantitative information apart from handling large volumes, which may not be achieved by employing human graders. This project presents a fruit size detecting and grading system based on image processing. The early assessment of fruit quality requires new tools for size and color measurement. After capturing the fruit side view image, some fruit characters is extracted by using detecting algorithms. According to these characters, grading is realized. Experiments show that this embedded grading system has the advantage of high accuracy of grading, high speed and low cost. It will have a good prospect of application in fruit quality detecting and grading areas. In order to improving fruits’ quality and production efficiency, reduce labor intensity, it is necessary to research nondestructive automatic detection technology. Fruit nondestructive detection is the process of detecting fruits’ inside and outside quality without any damage, using some detecting technology to make evaluation according some standard rules. Nowadays, the quality of fruit shape, default, color and size and so on cannot evaluated on line by the traditional methods. With the development of image processing technology and computer software and hardware, it becomes more attractive to detect fruits’ quality by using vision detecting technology. At present, most existing fruit quality detecting and grading system have the disadvantage of low efficiency, low speed of grading, high cost and complexity. So it is significant to develop high speed and low cost fruit size detecting and grading system. Here two choices are provided for grading either by color and size. In first case we are going to sort circular shaped fruits according color and grading is done according to size. The proposed automated classification and grading system is designed to combine three processes such as feature extraction, sorting according to color and grading according to size. Software development is highly important in this color classification system and for finding size of a fruit. The entire system is designed over MATLAB software to inspect the color and size of the fruit. CONTACT ON : 9503784350 , 020-65001020.

A type 1 injury has a small and clean wound with a relatively simple fracture pattern (usually transverse or short oblique). A type 2 injury has a greater wound length with moderate contamination and comminution. There is also moderate soft tissue damage, but without any flaps or avulsions. A type 3a injury has an extensive wound with severe soft tissue damage, contamination, comminution and/or a segmental fracture. As well, a type 3 injury is also indicated by the presence of periosteal stripping. With a type 3b injury there is inadequate soft-tissue coverage with bone exposure. The injury is classified as type 3c whenever there is arterial damage that requires repair, regardless of the wound size or the degree of soft tissue damage. Llewellyn Jacobs - Feasibility of Eradication for Melaleuca parvistaminea in SA - May 2013

Llewellyn Jacobs - Feasibility of Eradication for Melaleuca parvistaminea in SA - May 2013

Llewellyn Jacobs-University of Stellenbosch Melaleuca parvistaminea is native to Victoria and New South Wales and was first brought to SANBI's Invasive Species Programme attention in 2009. This species has not being recorded as an invasive anywhere else in the world. Over 13 000 plants spread over 372 ha at 3 sites between Tulbagh and Wolsely in the Western Cape. Population structure indicates considerably spread by seed with at least 63% of plants being seedling or juvenile. Clearing and fire trigger seed release causing prolific recruitment after winter rain. This species identification interacts with Melaleuca pericifolia. Melaleuca parvistaminea has rough bark leaves, flowers are white to cream petal tinged pink and obligate reseeder. This is a small tree species occurs in wetlands and near streams. The aim of the project is to determine current distribution, characterise population dynamics and age at reproduction of Melaleuca parvistaminea in South Africa. And also determine the feasibility of eradication.
