"APACHE" (Guitar instrumental)

"APACHE" (Guitar instrumental)

The tune that started my interest in all things guitar! I have not played this classic Shadows tune for over 50 years, but was inspired to do so again, by John Stallard's (CubbyHoleStudio) excellent orchestral backing track, "save for the cry of the wolves" LOL. Apache - Jörgen Ingmann 1961

Apache - Jörgen Ingmann 1961

"Apache", written by English songwriter Jerry Lordan, is based on the inspiration he drew from the 1954 American western movie Apache. The outstanding Danish jazz guitarist Jørgen Ingmann recorded this version of the song "Apache" in 1961 that reached the #2 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #9 on the R&B chart, and reached #1 in Canada. The song was originally recorded by UK guitarist Bert Weedon, however, it was the British group The Shadows version that made it a hit in the UK (not US) in 1960. That version has been cited by guitarists as one of the most inspirational and influential British rock records prior to The Beatles. The song's "title" was placed on the 100 Greatest Guitar instrumentals list. "Apache" has been covered by many including the popular American instrumental rock band The Ventures, and American jazz, country, and pop guitarist Al Caiola. A vocal version was released by country singer Sonny James in 1961 as well.
