Sparkling wine goes with everything. So, find out if we like this sparkling cremant d'Alsace. It's a pinot noir sparkler, so find out if we like it.
Cremant d'Alsace, Ehrhart, "Cuvee' Prestige" NV (Alsace, France) $14.99
CHAMPAGNE...WHY PAY MORE? There are plenty of other good value sparkling wine options out there — crisp, clean Proseccos from Italy and earthy Cavas from Spain — all of which can be great buys in the $10 to $20 range. But as we celebrate the season and ring in the New Year, we want something a little more luxurious. We crave that velvety texture, those tight little bubbles and sophisticated style only Champagne can offer. What about Cremant? It's French...it's bubbly...it's composed of high-quality hand picked grapes. Only a stones throw away from the Champagne district. It's made in the same labor intensive tradition that Champagne is. And the best part... it's not too expensive! Recently, I tried 18 different cremants to find a few that I would be proud to serve at a holiday dinner or give as a yuletide gift. I am off to the award winning restaurant, The Patio on Goldfinch, to meet with The Patio Group's Corporate Wine Buyer, Sheila Tracy, and San Diego's favorite wine curator and blogger Aaron Epstein, aka the Wine Dad. A staple on The Patio's wine list is the Lucien Albrecht Cremant d'Alsace Brut Rosé; a sparkling wine made in the same manner as Champagne with 100% Pinot Noir.

The domain of Frédéric Mochel in northern Alsace - in the village of Traenheim - produces wine with some of the best price/quality ratios from the region. Their grand cru Altenberg de Bergbieten Riesling is pristine and dry and delicious - and costs about $35 per bottle. For a top notch grand cru, that is pretty good. But all their wines are well made, including their Crémant d'Alsace.
Mike from Renaissance Wines in Orenco Station has been a good friend of ours through out our wine journey. We decided to do a show at his shop to showcase some interesting sparkling wines, and to give him a chance to share his thoughts with you guys as well. We taste 3 cremants; #1: Jaillance Crémant de Bordeaux Cuvée de l'Abbaye, #2: Langlois Château Crémant de Loire Brut, and #3: Lucien Albrecht Crémant d'Alsace Brut Rosé. Note: This was shot during business hours, so the sound is quite poor. Friends were excited to see this video, so we've posted it even with these problems. Thanks for your patience while we work with cheap equipment and learn how to use it better.
