Recently, I put an original Soviet-Russian 'plum' stock set on my RPK-74 build. So it seemed as good a time as any to make a short video about why this unique looking furniture came to be and why Russia used it back in the 1980s. Also, you can check out my RPK sporting its new duds! Visit http://ozarkbeararms.blogspot.com to read range reports and more articles on other firearms and accessories.

AK74 Bulgarian with NOS dark plum furniture. A close up look at my just finished project. My bulgarian plum set was purchased from a private individual on AK Files. Apex may offer surplus plum sets. They also have the unfiinished AK axis pins for trigger and hammer (polish). Pins and sight came nitrided and wanted original East Bloc finish, so replaced. Rear sight was Izhmash Russian (identical to Bulgarian) and purchased from member off AK Forum. The canvas sling is a bulgarian surplus I got from KVAR. The NOS plum magazine is 5.45x39mm and I ordered from RTG Parts. Base gun was built off bulgarian AK74 kit by DDI. As of OCT 2016 I am not aware of Destructive Devices Industries (DDI) making AK74's. These were limited run. Barrel is US, made by green mountain and nitrided. The DDI rifle finish is a KG Kote paint do not know the manufacturer ID #. Rifle will shoot less 2.5 to 2.75" " groups with Silver Bear. This video was shot with an IPHONE 7 camera. This video covers how to dye Magpul AK Sand PMags to a Plum color. Ingredients are Magpul AK PMags Sand in color, 1- 8oz bottle of Rit Wine Dye, 1 - 8 oz Rit Purple Dye, 1 -12 quart steel pot and 11 quarts of water. Set of Tongs. Instructions: Prepare 11 quarts of water and heat up, but not to a boil for about 10-15 minutes and mix 1 oz of Rit Dye Wine and 2.5 oz of Rit Dye Purple and mix or stir thoroughly. Place the disassembled magazine body and floor plate into the pot. The floor plate will take color on a hot pot in about 7 minutes and check regularly every two minutes with the tongs. The magazine body will need to be turned every 5 minutes and check for color consistency. May need to do this several times to allow the dye to absorb into the plastic on all sides. Once desired color is achieved allow to air dry on a paper towel, and then dry the remaining moisture from the magazines then rise with cold water, and dishwashing detergent, and a scouring pad to remove any excess dye which may not have penetrated the plastic. Dry and assemble the magazine. Enjoy! https://www.magpul.com/ https://www.ritstudio.com/

Magpul Furniture Upgrade Norinco MAK 90 AK47 Depending upon the model rifle you are upgrading your Magpul furniture have additional tools on standby. For example, I myself had to use flatheads, Allen wrenches, Philips screwdriver, grinding tools, box cutter, and a rubber mallet. Some modifications will have to be made in order to ensure all of the Magpul components fit and align properly. You may find yourself grinding down the dimples on the inside of the lower hand guard located on the heat shield or cutting the interior of the stock insert in order to get it to fit properly. Be aware of this prior to disassembling the rifle and mounting the Magpul furniture.
