The biggest brothel in Bangladesh - and possibly the world. The town of Daulatdia is home to 1,500 prostitutes, some as young as 10 years old. In a ramshackle maze of dirty alleyways, women and girls work day and night in tiny cubicles, meeting the men who pour in from the nearby highway. Many of the prostitutes have always lived there; some were sold into prostitution by their families, and others were abducted from their villages. 101 East goes inside this sprawling brothel to find out how women and their children survive when hope is in short supply. In Afghanistan women are forbidden to dance in public. Local men suffer – they want entertainment and sex at any cost. RT talked to “bachas”, boys dressed as women who dance for older men at male-only parties, and “playboys”, the bosses who recruit them. A private party usually ends up with guests bidding for a night with the ‘bacha’ (a ‘boy’ in Farsi). Angeles City in the Philippines is a well-known sex tourism destination. There used to be an American air base here, but now it’s popular among mainly retired men who travel in search of sex for sale. Hundreds of local young women work in the bars and night clubs offering additional services for the money they desperately need to make ends meet and feed their families. The real victims though are the sex workers’ children, conceived by foreign travellers. These children immediately stand out in the crowd, being of mixed-race here almost certainly means a child is the product of a liaison between a sex tourist and a call girl. They may stand out but they’re not unusual, within their communities there are many children of the sex trade. In most cases, the kids have never met their fathers who, after visiting for a brief holiday, either don’t know or care that their own offspring have been left behind. The burden of raising the children rests entirely on the shoulders of the already struggling mothers. An RT Doc film crew visits Angeles City to meet the children abandoned by foreign sex tourist fathers. This programme reveals their lives and dreams and some heartfelt messages for the estranged fathers. Seoul, South Korea's capital, is at the heart of a growing obsession to look perfect. In the Apgujeong district of Seoul, the streets are lined with endless rows of plastic surgery clinics. Business is booming. In South Korea, v-shaped jaws, double eyelids and dimpled smiles are all the rage and people from across the nation, and the world, are flocking to the clinics for plastic surgery, supporting an industry worth $5bn a year. More than 4,000 clinics provide cosmetic surgery in Seoul, with an estimated 650,000 people a year going under the knife. But the surgeries performed by some of the clinics do not always live up to patients' expectations and the quest for beauty and profits is putting lives at risk. So Yi Yoon has suffered many medical problems since having plastic surgery, including not being able to close one of her eyes. She now works two jobs to pay off her debts and is suffering from depression. On this edition of 101 East, we look at what is driving the growth of this booming business and at what price to individuals and the wider Korean society? 101 East delves into Korea's plastic surgery craze and uncovers the real price of pursuing physical perfection.
